Repairs & Setups

Acoustic or Electric Setup - £50

This is the general work to get your guitar playing its best. This includes adjustments to the action, truss rod and neck relief, intonation, nut slots and tuners, pickup balancing and cleaning of electrical parts on electric guitars, general cleaning, and a restring with D'Addario 10-46 for electrics or D'Addario 12-53 Phosphor Bronze for acoustics. Other strings can be requested.

Restring - £20

Standalone restring and fretboard cleaning service. I stock a small range of strings, if you'd like something I don't have in the workshop then strings are charged additionally.

Fret Levelling - £120-150

Fret levelling, crowning and polishing for guitars where the frets are worn but still have enough height to work with. Includes a full setup.

Full Refret - £250

Complete refret and full setup. Cost is higher for guitars with bound fingerboards.

Bolt-on Neck Reset - £150-£200

Price depends on whether the guitar has a glued fingerboard extension.

Glued Neck Joint Reset - from £400

Traditional dovetail and other glued neck joints. Will typically involve a new saddle, any finish work required will affect the final cost.

I stock Taylor-supplied shims for Taylor NT neck systems.

All neck resets are assessed in person before a final quote is given.

Headstock Repairs - £50 to over £300

A clean hairline crack with nothing detached can be as little as £50. Major breaks requiring reinforcement and/or finish work vary considerably and can run from £150 to £300 or more. All headstock repairs are assessed individually and the desired level of repair discussed.

Detached Bridge - from £150

Bridge is removed, the underside and bridge footprint cleaned up, and then glued. Instances where there is major tear-out from the top of the guitar will increase the cost.

Loose Braces

Regluing of braces which have detached for whatever reason.

Crack Repairs

Whether they are small hairline cracks or run the entire length of the guitar, cracks are glued level, reinforced internally and in some cases refinished over the top. They take many forms and as such the pricing is highly variable, ones which are easy to access are cheaper.

Dents and Impact Damage

Some dents can be steamed back into place, some can be blended in with finish and hidden. Repairs to them take a number of forms.

Binding & Purfling

The replacement or regluing of loose/damaged binding and purfling.

Bellied Tops

Where the forward rotation of the bridge has caused deformation of the guitar top over time. These can be solved with a JLD Bridge Doctor or, in more severe cases, the top steamed back into place using specialised cauls.
